Reuters / Jason Cairnduff

With Arsenal emerging out as surprising winners against Manchester United earlier today, and Arsene Wenger finally beating Jose Mourinho for the first ever time in his managerial career in the Premier League, here is a look at the player ratings as the Gunners emerged victorious with a score line of 2-0:

Arsenal

P. Cech – 8
Absolutely dominated the goal, made an incredible save from Martial to ensure a clean sheet.

R. Holding – 8
Was up to everything Darmian and Mkhitaryan offered, matched pace for pace.

L. Koscielny – 7
Rock solid in defence and one of his finer performances.

N. Monreal – 7
Partnered Koscielny brilliantly and was decisive in every step at the back.

K. Gibbs – 7
Solid against Martial at all times and provided good support in attack when needed.

G. Xhaka – 8
Good passing range, powerful in midfield, and took on the shot which opened the scoring for his side.

A. Ramsey – 7

Creative passing was an attribute today alongside a stamina-filled man of the match performance.

O. Chamberlain – 8
His pace was a constant menace for the United back line, provided a peach of an assist for Welbeck to score.

A. Sanchez – 6
Not his strongest performance, but the rest of the team backed up for him.

M. Ozil – 6
An average display accompanied with a couple fine passes.

D. Welbeck – 8
Was the sole striker on the pitch today for the home side, and scored a bullet header to provide a two-goal lead against his former club.

Manchester United

D. Gea – 7
Could not have possibly kept either goal out, but produced fine saves in the first half.

A. Tuanzebe – 8
Absolutely bossed Sanchez throughout the match and looks certainly like a player for the future.

C. Smalling – 6
Looked not motivated enough, and still not completely fit with a lack lustre performance.

P. Jones – 6
Effort was not a hundred percent, seemed off pace especially in the second half.

M. Darmian – 6
Was clearly a tired figure throughout, but put in decent tackles from time to time.

A. Herrera – 6
His deflection caused the first goal. A player certainly looking fatigued from excess game time in recent weeks.

M. Carrick – 6
Age seems to have caught up with the vice captain, not an ideal replacement for Pogba in the centre.

H. Mkhitaryan – 4

Probably one of his worst performances in the league so far.

J. Mata – 6
His return to the starting lineup could not help provide the spark and creativity needed for any points today.

A. Martial – 6
Tried dribbling past defenders almost every time he had the ball, managed success barely half the time.

W. Rooney – 4
A performance he would want to forget, maybe proving it is time to say goodbye.

An attacker with his words, and defends each of them with pride. A love for the game which goes hand in hand with his will to forever write. A graduate in the course of advertising and a hopeful to be author. Herrera for the win.
