Mourinho Will Have A £200m Budget For The Upcoming Transfer Window, Claims Gary Neville
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will have a budget of around £200 million for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Gary Neville.
Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, the Red Devils’ legend claimed that United’s pockets are bulging with cash, and that Mourinho will know exactly whom to bring to Old Trafford in the summer.
Mourinho has reportedly been tracking Antoine Griezmann, Michael Keane, and several other top stars, as he aims to make the club title challengers again next season.
“Manchester United have the largest chequebook in the world at the moment in terms of fees,” said Neville on Monday Night Football. “Jose Mourinho has been unbelievable in the transfer market over the years.
“They got £45million back for Schneiderlin and Depay and maybe if [David] De Gea leaves, it will be £60m or £70m – so he’s going to have £200m to spend.”
Neville also admitted that he has been disappointed by the way United have performed this season, especially in the big games away from home.
Their recent 2-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates has now put their chances of qualifying for the Champions League in jeopardy, and it seems their only route into the competition next season would be to win the Europa League.
Despite this, Neville is convinced that Mourinho will make United into a world-class team once more when he assembles his own squad after making some more signings in the transfer windows to come.
“I thought they should challenge for the title this season, so the performance in the league this season is unacceptable,” he said.
“There’s 12 points I can point towards at home that would have them close to Chelsea.
“It’s not good, but in his first season when he’s obviously found the squad’s not as good as he thought it would be, he deserves another 12 months.
“He’s only signed four players for Manchester United. Once he’s signed eight or 10 and is a year further forward I would be asking a question if he was playing a back six in all these big away games.”
