West Brom 0-1 Chelsea: Unlikeliest Of Heroes Seals Blues’ Title Win

One out stretched leg in the 82nd minute of a quite one-sided encounter, and Chelsea were champions once more.

There was never any doubt as to which part of London the title would end up from the moment Tottenham Hotspur slipped up at West Ham. It left Chelsea needing just 3 points from their remaining 3 games, and in the end, it was just a question of when and where, not if.

For a second, it looked as though West Brom might just delay the inevitable by another week. That was until that outstretched leg. You look back at the Blues’ title winning campaign this season and you think, “who better than Eden Hazard to score the goal that wins Chelsea the Premier League title”.

Well, it wasn’t him. How about their next best star and PFA player of the season N’Golo Kante? Nope, wasn’t him either. Diego Costa then, or Pedro, Fabregas, Alonso, Cahill, Moses, Azpilicueta, or a fairy tale ending to John Terry’s career at the club surely? Believe it or not, it was none of them either.

Rather, up stepped the man deemed a £30 million flop, a waste of space, and someone who should pack his bags and move to China. Up stepped the man whose last goal in the Premier League came at the start of the season on the 20th of August against Watford. Up stepped Michy Batshuayi to win the Premier League title for Chelsea!

Antonio Conte’s men have dominated this league season ever since the Italian’s ingenious decision to switch to a 3-4-3 formation, and will deservedly lift their trophy in front of their home fans at Stamford Bridge.
