Incoming Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde wants Manchester United‘s Player of the Year, Ander Herrera, as his first signing this summer.

The Catalan giants failed to win the La Liga as well as the Champions League this season, with their boss Luis Enrique having decided to quit the club at the end of the season midway through the campaign.

Former Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde is the man to take charge of the Camp Nou outfit from summer onwards, and he has already begun making transfer preparations for his Barcelona side.

According to Spanish news outfit Sport (via The Sun), he is eyeing a reunion with Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera next season.

Herrera has been in impeccable form for Manchester United this season, and was instrumental in their victory over Ajax in the recent Europa League final. His performances also saw him named the ‘Player of the Year’ for the English outfit, but it is now understood that Valverde is interested in getting him back to La Liga.

The duo worked at the San Mames stadium for a year before Herrera made the switch to England, and it is now understood that Valverde is desperate for his signature. In fact, reports suggest that he has asked the Barcelona hierarchy to get this deal done as quickly as possible.

It does not come as a surprise that Jose Mourinho is also taking preventive steps, as the same report suggests that the Portuguese wants the United hierarchy to get Herrera to accept a new deal.

The 27-year-old already has a bumper £120,000-a-week contract on the table, but it is to be seen if he will put pen to paper after hearing about the interest from one of the biggest clubs from his homeland.
