AC Milan Director Warns Donnarumma To Make A Decision Over His Future Soon
AC Milan Chief Executive Marco Fassone has warned goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to make a decision over a contract renewal soon, because the club cannot wait too long in dealing with the situation.
The 18-year-old goalkeeping prodigy’s existing contract is due to expire in June 2018, and no agreement has yet been reached over a new deal. A number of top clubs are keeping an eye on Donnarumma’s situation, with Manchester United reportedly eyeing a €75 million move this summer.
There is no denying that the strong uncertainty is growing on Donnarumma’s future every day, and his agent Mino Raiola has made it clear that the youngster’s future is likely to be settled after the International matches early next month.
However, AC Milan chief executive Marco Fassone has said that he doesn’t want to drag the issue all summer, and wants the decision very quickly.
Speaking of the situation, Fassone told Mediaset Premium: “Mino Raiola is one of the best agents, so I wouldn’t criticise what he does. Gigio is a pillar for us to build the team around next season. We told him that and we told his agent. We are clarifying the situation.
“When I look at Donnarumma, I see in his eyes the desire to remain. What we cannot do is wait around. We need to give Montella his squad, we want to know if we’ve got a goalkeeper coming to the end of his contract or not. Our timeframe is rather shorter than Raiola would like. I am sure we’ll find a solution, but at the moment there are no meetings planned.”
Reports in Italy previously suggested that the Donnarumma will be omitted from the first team for all of next season if he does not agree on a new deal before January 30.
Fassone denied the speculations, and claimed that in case Donnarumma decides to leave San Siro, he is confident that the club will find a way to fill the void.
“Leaving Donnarumma in the stands for a year? No club would do such a thing. We don’t want a goalkeeper whose contract is running down. We’ll make our evaluations and we need a Plan B in case things don’t go the way we want,” Fassone added.
