Manchester United seem to be linked with almost every top seed in Europe, and recent reports have disclosed the Reds’ interest in signing Real Madrid’s star defender Raphael Varane.

According to Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho is said to have identified Varane as a potential target for the Red Devils in the upcoming summer window, as the Portuguese looks to strengthen his defensive line-up.

It was also claimed that Mourinho has shortlisted three other defenders as possible targets alongside the French defender, namely Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, Burnley’s Michael Keane, and Victor Lindelof of Benfica.

Manchester United boss was in charge at Santiago Bernabeu when Varane arrived in 2011, and he coached the defender for two seasons during his tenure with Los Blancos.

Varane, 24, who could claim his third Champions League winners’ medal on Saturday, has an opportunity to surpass Paolo Maldini, who managed the feat at the age of 26 to become the youngest defender to do so.

Its was claimed by Sky Sports that Real have made a £60 million bid for David De Gea, however Manchester United dismissed the reports saying that no formal offer had been received.

Also, United’s offer for Varane could involve a deal for the Spanish goalkeeper to head to the Bernabeu. As per the reports, Mourinho is also said to be interested in another Real Madrid star, Alvaro Morata.

However, AC Milan are said to be the frontrunners for Morata’s signature, and reports in Spain suggest that the 24-year-old striker is close to agreeing a deal.
