Griezmann Signs Improved Club Deal, According To AS
Antoine Griezmann has reportedly accepted Atletico Madrid’s new and improved contract offer.
According to AS, the France international has decided to accept an offer that was put forward to him by his club three weeks ago with new and improved terms.
Griezmann has been constantly linked with a switch to Manchester United in recent weeks, and this news will come as a huge blow to the Premier League club, who were ready to meet his enormous release clause to bring him to Old Trafford.
Only three months ago, the striker signed a new contract with Los Rojiblancos containing a €100 million release clause that meant he would remain at the club till at least 2021.
However, with several of Europe’s elite clubs still circling around the forward – none more so than United – the La Liga club was forced to offer him a new and improved deal with a higher salary.
Atletico Madrid found out on Thursday that their appeal against the transfer ban being imposed on them had been rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This seems to have had a direct impact on the future of Griezmann, who seemed destined to make a switch to the Theatre of Dreams.
Instead, following the confirmation of the ban being put into place by the CAS, the 26-year-old posted a picture on his twitter page with the caption “Now more than ever, All of us together.”
This seems to be confirmation that he will remain with the Madrid club for another season, and AS now report that he has accepted the new and improved contract offer that was made to him three weeks ago.
The report also claims that Diego Costa, Vitolo and Sandro will continue to remain as targets for the club when they are allowed to sign players again next January, while Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil will now have the task of ensuring that Fernando Torres remains at the club.
