Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is reportedly going to start his pre-season training two weeks ahead of his fellow club teammates, in a desperate move to get into Jose Mourinho’s side next season.

The striker, who just started 26 games in all competitions during the Portuguese manager’s first campaign with the Red Devils, is currently on holiday in Greece, and is reportedly set to undertake a personalized fitness programme to ensure he is fit when the rest of the squad returns in early July.

According to Mirror, Rooney is determined to show that his career with United is not over, and with a £65 million deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata on the verge of happening as per several reports, the competition for a spot in Mourinho’s front line remains fierce.

The England international’s future has been under speculation, and he is expected to secure a move away from Old Trafford.

Heading into Carrington early would also ensure that the decorated forward would be fit and ready if an offer from the Chinese Super League or MLS appears on the table.
