Theo Hernandez’s Transfer To Real Madrid To Be Announced Next Week
Atletico Madrid’s Theo Hernandez is all set to join fierce rivals Real Madrid in a deal which is expected to be confirmed next week, reports the Express.
The 19-year-old will become the first player since 2000 to make a switch between Atletico and Real Madrid. The two Madrid-based clubs have mostly maintained an unwritten pact where they don’t sign players in between them – but Hernandez’s transfer is set to be an aberration, as his transfer is expected to be announced soon.
The French wing-back spent last season on loan at Alaves, where he impressed a number of clubs, but it was Real Madrid who pounced on the opportunity to sign him before anyone else.
It is believed that the player had passed his medical a month ago, and all that remains now is an official confirmation from Real Madrid. The total fee involved in the Hernandez’s transfer is expected to be £26.2m.
Theo has come through the ranks at Atletico’s youth system, after signing for them in 2008. The player’s brother Lucas also plays for the Atletico – interestingly, even his father Jean-Francois had played for Atletico Madrid in his days.
It’s worth noting that a certain Raul Gonzalez left the Atletico Madrid’s youth setup in 1992 to join Real Madrid, and the striker then went on to score 323 goals for Los Blancos. The last player to move from Atletico to Real was in 2000, when Argentine midfielder Santiago Solari made the rare switch.
