Barcelona Reject Manchester United’s €35m Midfielder Bid
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has reportedly snubbed Manchester United’s latest offer of €35 million for Andre Gomes.
The 23-year-old had arrived at the Camp Nou last year from Valencia, but failed to impress in his debut season with the club. However, as per report from Marca, Ernesto Valverde seems to be a huge fan of the Portuguese, and the new gaffer has dismissed the idea to let the player go, declaring him non-transferable.
It was claimed that super agent Jorge Mendes held a meeting with Barca to discuss the transfer of his client, but it was made clear by the club that they were not willing to sell the midfielder. The club officials were quoted as saying: “Andre Gomes will not be sold.”
Barcelona, who are in the market for an ace midfielder with PSG star Marco Verratti their prime target, had signed Gomes for £29.3 million as Andres Iniesta’s long-term replacement.
However, another club that has been keeping tabs of the Portuguese midfielder is Juventus, as the Serie A giants are also in the market to fill up their midfield with a star playmaker.
Nonetheless, the Red Devils will surely hope to sign the star in the future, as Gomes, who found the back of the net on just 3 occasions in his 30 La Liga appearances for Barcelona last term, is believed to be a big fan of his fellow Portuguese countryman Jose Mourinho.
Last year, before joining the Spanish giants, the midfielder publicly stated: “Mourinho is a great coach, there is no doubt about that. But for now my future is left to one side.”
