Manchester United are set to complete their second signing of the summer, by sealing the deal for Monaco starlet Fabinho.

According to reports in Italy, the English club has moved a step closer to signing the Brazilian, and he is said to have agreed to personal terms.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise, given that recent reports claimed the Old Trafford officials had insisted that the player’s name was not on the list of targets for this summer, which Mourinho had given to chief executive Ed Woodward.

Reputable Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Mirror) have claimed that not only have the personal terms been agreed with the player, but a fee has now been agreed with his club, AS Monaco, too.

An offer worth €35 million, along with €5m bonus linked to goals and appearances, has been tabled by the Red Devils, and Monaco seem willing to sell their talented youngster.

The 23-year-old has also been linked to Juventus and Inter Milan, while his former club Real Madrid were also lurking, but it appears that United will be his most likely destination.

Mourinho has been desperate to find a proper right-back who can challenge Antonio Valencia for a spot in the first team. However, reports suggest that the Portuguese boss is also considering the thought of playing Fabinho as a defensive midfielder.

The Brazilian is very versatile and has filled in a number of roles for Monaco whenever required, and such qualities are what impress Mourinho.

The 55-year-old manager has been tracking the likes of Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic for quite a while now, and is keen on signing at least one of the two. However, should Fabinho sign, Mourinho may decide to drop interest in them.

Oddly enough, it was in fact Mourinho who gave Fabinho his professional debut for Real Madrid while the former was on the touchline at the Santiago Bernabeu and the player himself was on loan at the club’s B team. At the moment, a reunion seems more than likely to happen.
