Spanish giants Barcelona have extended the contract of promising youngster Carles Alena, who played an important role in the B team last season.

Alena has agreed to sign a contract for the next three years, and if he makes it to the first team this term, then his contract will be extended for further two seasons.

Moreover, there is a release clause in his contract and that could reach a whopping €75 million.

The Spaniard played a key role in Barça B’s promotion campaign, and has also made his first team debut under Luis Enrique, scoring an important goal in the Copa del Rey against Hercules. He also made three substitute appearances in La Liga against Granada, Sevilla and Osasuna.

New Barca coach Ernesto Valverde will now make a decision this summer on whether Alena will be with the first team, or continue with the B team next season.

However, the youngster is set to travel with the first team squad on the club’s tour of the United States, where the Catalans will play three International Champions Cup games.
