Monaco have rejected a new £40 million bid placed by their title rivals Paris Saint-Germain, for their star midfielder Fabinho.

Fabinho was claimed to have been contacted by the ‘Les Parisiens’ and was acceptable of the offer they were willing to give him. But according to L’Equipe, the French Champions rejected the move, as they are not in any dire monetary requirement to fuel a transfer of a critical player from their team.

The midfielder has also been very strongly linked with Manchester United, who have put bids on him according to several reports. While he was also linked with English Champions Chelsea, his admiration for Jose Mourinho is understood to be the reason he would prefer a move to Old Trafford over Stamford Bridge.

But with Manchester United’s inability to seal the deal quickly allowed PSG to sneak in a bid and try to close in on the Brazilian international. The bid was denied by Monaco.

Previously, the Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport had claimed that Manchester United have already come to a settled deal for close to €35 million, with another €5 million in add-on clauses. The deal is expected to close soon for the 23-year-old, which would make him the second player to join United this summer, after Victor Lindelof.

The midfielder, despite being just 23, has already proven why Europe is going gaga over him. Helping his side break the Ligue 1 title from the clutches of PSG, he was also flexible in his position in the team. His main position being central midfield, he can also hold his position well as a wing-back.

The Brazilian has started 5 games for his country, and has made 67 appearances for the club as a fixed player since 2015. Before signing a contract, he was also a loanee for two years at the club, during which he played in another 62 games.

This move could mean Monaco would lose yet another of their prodigies. With Bernardo Silva having moved to City, and rest of their talents, including Mbappe, being targeted by the footballing giants, it would be a tough task for the club to hold on to its best players.
