PSG To Pull Off Stunning Steal As Dani Alves Snubs Premier League Interest
Paris Saint Germain are on the brink of sealing a stunning move for Dani Alves, according to Daily Record.
Alves was on the verge of signing for Manchester City, with the chance to link up with his former boss Pep Guardiola seemingly the catalyst in his decision to move to the Sky Blues.
The Brazilian is currently a free agent, after he was released by Juventus at the end of last season, and since then, City was the only club several journalists and pundits saw him ending up at.
In fact, the Citizens themselves were so confident of sealing a move for the defender, that they even reportedly briefed the press about his imminent arrival. He was due to have a medical with the club and join up with his new teammates on their pre-season tour, but that has all gone out the window now.
Report suggest that while City were taking their own time with the transfer because they were so confident there was only one place he wanted to be at and one manager he wanted to work for again, other clubs were secretly preparing counter offers of their own to change the 34-year-old’s mind.
Chelsea were also considering a move for the former Barcelona defender, as it is believed that Roman Abramovich is a firm admirer of the veteran defender.
Jose Mourinho has been keen to shore up his defense as well, and United were linked with moves for several right-backs this summer, due to the uncertainty surrounding Matteo Darmian’s future at the club and the lack of a proper back-up to Antonio Valencia. The Reds enquired about the defender as a result, but nothing materialized.
Tottenham had also been interested, with Kyle Walker set to leave the club this summer and Kieran Trippier being the only proper out and out right-back still at the club.
However, it now appears that PSG have stolen the defender from under their competitors’ noses, and Alves has made a verbal agreement to join up with the Parisians.
A PSG source claimed that Alves was convinced to change his direction from England to France, after the club offered him the chance to play a key role in their quest to reach the pinnacle of club football by winning the Champions League. A deal is said to be in place, and could be completed in the next 24 hours.
