Manchester United have turned to a lesser known name in their pursuit of a midfielder, as the club scouts are set to watch Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker tomorrow.

Jose Mourinho seems to have given up on big names like Marco Verratti, Fabinho, and Eric Dier to strengthen his squad in the midfield position. Contrary to his earlier approach, the Portuguese coach is now keen on a young Belgian who plays for Anderlecht.

According to De Morgan, Manchester United officials are among the list of people attending tomorrow’s Jupiler League season opener.

The match between Antwerp and Anderlecht will feature Leander Dendoncker – a 22-year-old midfielder who is thought to be rated very highly by Mourinho. The youngster gathered huge praise last season, when he put up a number of top class performances for the Belgian club.

Dendoncker is believed to have caught the eye of Mourinho during Manchester United’s Europa League tie against Anderlecht at Old Trafford. The Belgian was one of the best performers on the pitch that night, as he even managed to score a goal against the Red Devils.

However, signing Dendoncker will certainly cost a significant sum of money because of huge interest from various clubs. Other than Manchester United, clubs like RB Leipzig and AC Milan have also sent their scouts to watch the midfielder in tomorrow’s game. The youngster is reportedly valued at €38 million by Anderlecht.
