Watford Keen On Signing Fosu-Mensah On Loan
Watford are desperate to sign Timothy Fosu-Mensah on a season-long loan.
The Hornets rate the youngster highly, and they believe he could be a great fit at their team. However, Jose Mourinho is yet to make a decision on the player’s future, with reports claiming that the United’s hierarchy will decide after their Super Cup clash against Real Madrid.
The young defender was handed over his United debut under former manager Louis Van Gaal. Although Jose Mourinho has used him sparingly since his arrival, he is not unaware of the flashes of brilliance that the 19-year-old has consistently shown.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah is an interesting player. To begin with, he originally trained to be a center-back or a holding midfielder, but has featured for United primarily at right-back. He has a solid build for a 19-year-old, and has shown time and again that he can fit in the sheer physicality that the Premier League demands.
United’s decision to make an announcement post their Super Cup clash seems like a calculated one. One could expect that Fosu-Mensah will play a part in the game, and would be provided with a big opportunity to impress his Portugese manager.
One should also not forget that the Mancunian club is on the lookout for a quality right-back this summer, and should the young Dutchman impress his boss, he could be asked to feature in United’s campaign the coming season, wherein they would be playing a lot of games.
While it is hard to predict what a loan could spell for the young prodigy, Watford could be a good place for him to rack up some game time. But, being with United brings different things to the table.
His future might not be completely in his hands, but he should make a calculated move at this tender stage of his nascent footballing career.
