Manchester United have been dealt with a huge blow in their pursuit of Inter’s Ivan Perisic, as the club has made it clear that the winger is not for sale.

Reports came out a few days before suggesting that the stalled talks between the two clubs for the sale of the Croatian had caught fire. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has made his club’s stance very clear.

Ausilio claimed that Perisic, along with fellow wide-man Antonio Candreva, were never made available in the transfer market to begin with.

“‘I don’t understand where some of these stories come from,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“Candreva has never been on the market and we have absolutely no intention of selling him. The same goes for Perisic, who is an important player and we are currently discussing a new contract with him.”

Undoubtedly, Persic has been a key player for the Serie A giants since his arrival from Wolfsburg. The 28-year-old made an enormous impact last season as well, wherein he scored 11 goals, and was absolutely crucial in the final third going forward.

Another reason why the Nerazzurri are desperate to hold on to their two main men is because their eternal rivals, AC Milan, who have had a brilliant transfer window, as they have added several world-class players to their squad.

However, while Inter remain firm on their stance of not selling their talisman, their hierarchy could come under immense pressure, due to the winger’s desire to move to England, as well as the financial resources possessed by the Red Devils. As of now, however, their pragmatism is a welcome gesture.
