Man Utd Team News: How The Squad Looks Ahead Of The Super Cup Clash
Manchester United kick-start their new campaign in a clash against Champions League winners Real Madrid in the Super Cup on Tuesday in Skopje, and there are some striking elements in Jose Mourinho’s squad.
United had a successful pre-season tour, which gave the Reds’ fans a glimpse of what they can expect from their side this season. As new arrivals Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have already impressed with their recent performances, United fans might be in for a treat as the 2017/18 season approaches.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has plenty of decisions to contemplate and make before announcing his lineup for the Super Cup clash.
Eric Bailly is certain to miss out, following his three-match suspension he received against Anderlecht at Old Trafford in April, alongside Phil Jones, whose suspension was recently announced by UEFA.
The Red Devils have also picked up a couple of injuries, as Juan Mata and Ander Herrera both took a knock during the pre-season tours. However, the club has officially stated that they are “back in action”.
On the other hand, Sergio Romero and Jesse Lingard, who scored the last time the Premier League giants faced the Galacticos in the US, were absent for the match against Sampdoria in Dublin, but could feature on Tuesday.
However, key players like Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, and Marcos Rojo are all set to be mere spectators in Skopje, as the trio is still under rehabilitation, which has been progressing well and steadily.
The United boss will be looking to head into the new season with a positive start, and will surely be aiming to get the better of his former club.
It is yet to be seen how the addition of Matic affects the play compared to last time, as the two European giants lock horns for the second time in pre-season, while the new Premier League season is not far behind.
