Shaw And Young Set To Return After Recovering From Long-Term Injuries
Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are set to return to the fold after recovering from their respective long-term injuries.
Shaw has been out of the fold since sustaining ankle ligament damage against Swansea City on the 30th of April. The youngster has just a year left to run on his current deal with United, and will be hoping to prove a point to Jose Mourinho in the coming weeks and earn an extension.
Young, on the other hand, pulled up injured in the Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo on the 4th of May, and missed the rest of the season as a result.
The English pair was included in the pre-season squad that traveled to the USA, and they continued their recovery whilst with the rest of the squad. They have been training with the first team for a week now, and are set to return to action against Swansea for United’s Under-23 side.
When asked for an update on the squad, Jose told MUTV: “Everybody is fine. The next week, on Monday, in the Under-23s game, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are playing their first minutes of competition this season.
“It is like a pre-season match for them. But it is good news because, when they can play with the Under-23s, it is because the last week they trained with us all week so they are both coming [back].”
