Di Maria ‘Agrees’ Barcelona Move
Angel Di Maria has reached an agreement with Barcelona, and will complete a move to the Nou Camp before deadline day, according to reports.
Barcelona have been targeting a move for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, and have made several attempts to secure a move for the Brazilian.
However, they have seen each approach turned away by the Anfield outfit, as the Reds have made it absolutely clear that the Catalans should not even bother returning with another bid, as they have no intentions whatsoever of selling their prized asset.
As a result, the La Liga giants have turned their attentions elsewhere, and have now set their sights on a move for PSG’s Angel di Maria. The 29-year-old has a history with the club’s arch-rivals Real Madrid, but that does not appear to be a hindrance in the move, as the player himself has given the green light for the deal to go ahead.
According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Di Maria is on the brink of completing the switch to the Nou Camp, in a deal that is likely to cost the Spanish giants around €50 million.
Paris Saint-Germain are in desperate need of an inflow of funds following their groundbreaking €200 million deal that brought Neymar in from Barcelona, and as a result, have resigned to the fact that the Argentine will have to be sold.
The news, however, will be rather uplifting for Barca, who are going through one of the most gloomiest periods at the club in recent years. Neymar’s departure was then followed by a 5-1 humbling across two legs at the hands of arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
Rumours have also been circulating about Lionel Messi’s future now, as his contract with the Catalans has just one year left to run. Di Maria’s arrival should help settle that situation, and it will also bring a much-needed morale boost to the squad.
