Stevan Jovetic: AS Monaco Announce Kylian Mbappe Replacement
Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic has joined Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco on a 4-year deal from Italian giants Inter Milan.
The former Fiorentina and Manchester City player has joined for a reported £10m deal, as he looks to add more depth for the French side. The 27-year-old will wear the No. 10 shirt at Monaco vacated by the outgoing Kylian Mbappe, who is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on a loan deal before being bought for £166m next summer.
Upon the completion of the transfer, Jovetic told the club’s website: “I’m very happy to be here. There are some great players on this team. That’s why I chose AS Monaco.”
Meanwhile, Inter will be happy to let go of a player whose time at the San Siro has been disappointing. Jovetic showed promise while playing for Fiorentina, and that saw him get purchased by Manchester City. But the striker didn’t get regular game time, and was loaned to the Italian club after just 2 years.
Jovetic then went on to score 7 goals in 28 appearances for Inter, as they signed him permanently. But the player saw himself being loaned out to La Liga club Sevilla, where he had a decent time. With experiences in several top leagues in Europe, Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev believes he will be a vital addition.
“We’re very happy to welcome Stevan Jovetic to AS Monaco. He has played in the biggest leagues and has experience of the very highest level,” said Vasilyev.
Jovetic will hope resurrect his career in France and be a key asset for the side, and play a good support role to main striker and club skipper Radamel Falcao.
Monaco have sold several key players this summer, and with Mbappe going too, they will hope to keep fighting PSG for the honour. Fans will, therefore, expect Jovetic to find his form quickly and deliver some worthy moments in the time to come.
