Arsenal and Manchester United may have to fend off immense competition from Inter Milan if they wish to sign Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.

The Uruguay international made his top flight debut in the Uruguayan league at the age of 17, and is widely considered a ‘precocious talent’ in his country. Further enforcing that, Gimenez’s displays on the pitch proved to be enough to convince Atleti to sell their defence’s cornerstone, Joao Miranda.

Meanwhile, the Uruguayan was constantly linked with the likes of Arsenal, AS Roma, Juventus and Manchester United; all looking to strengthen their shaky defence.

The Premier League giants looked favourites to sign Gimenez, but failed to do so this summer transfer window. However, the Gunners as well as the Red Devils are prepared to lock horns in the upcoming winter transfer window in order to secure the defender’s services.

On the other hand, however, Tuttosport suggest that after failing to lure in wantaway Arsenal man Shkodran Mustafi, Inter Milan have also turned their attention to Los Rojiblancos’ youngster.

Inter have done well in the transfer market this time around, but failed to bring in a defender that completes their backline. And, after the disagreements with Arsenal regarding Mustafi’s move, the Italian giants will be looking to hijack their winter transfer window target.

The 22-year-old has less than 12 months left on his current contract with the La Liga outfit, and is yet to extend his stay at the Spanish capital.

Furthermore, he is bound by a release clause worth £60 million, making it harder to snatch him away from the Wanda Metropolitano. However, the European giants will be looking to capitalise on his contract rebellion, and lure him away with an attractive offer.
