Jose Mourinho Identifies Manchester United’s John Terry
In his long and illustrious career as a defender, John Terry became a true legend of the game. But, he owes much of it to former manager Jose Mourinho, who influenced his career by making him Chelsea’s captain in 2004.
And now, the Portuguese seems to have found the right player at Manchester United who can perhaps play a similar role like Terry’s in the squad; and that player is Phil Jones.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Special One has put Jones in the category of current squad players who are unsellable, alongside David De Gea and Marcus Rashford, as he believes the Englishman could be a vital cog in United’s defence.
Phil Jones was a breakout star when Sir Alex Ferguson was at United’s helm. The Scot identified the immense potential that Jones was blessed with, and made him a mainstay in his all conquering squad. But, after he left the club, the Englishman’s career seems to have moved in a downward spiral.
However, since Mourinho took over the reigns at United, the 25-year-old has evidently revived his dwindling career. He has made a solid start to the new season, and has been in inspirational form in the heart of United’s defence.
Whether Jones will be capable of installing himself in the same air as John Terry is something that we have to wait and watch from the sidelines. But the promise that he seems to be showing, and the manager’s trust in him, might just be the perfect recipe for Jones to succeed as a footballer.
