Thomas Lemar: Manchester United To Stun Arsenal With £92m Bid
Romelu Lukaku’s high budget move could reportedly be overpowered by the massive bid being prepared by Manchester United for Monaco star Thomas Lemar, so as to bring him to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
Lemar was mooted to switch to Arsenal this summer, and almost completed his move to the Emirates on the transfer deadline day before eventually backing out. However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger still seems set to bring in the 21-year-old, as he remains the Gunners’ top target for January.
United boss Jose Mourinho has also identified the highly-rated Frenchman as a viable option to strengthen his squad over the winter, and he is all set to engage in battle with Wenger over the wide-man’s signature.
As per Mirror, the Red Devils are set to give Gunners a run for their money, as they have already begun preparations of the massive £92m bid to bring Lemar to Old Trafford. The sum is almost double the £47m paid by Arsenal to sign Alexandre Lacazette, and also more than United’s club-record £89m signing of Paul Pogba.
It was reported that the player’s advisors are aware of Mourinho’s interest, and that United are craving to add a wide player to their attack. Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic was viewed as an option by the Red Devils, but a new 5-year contract which was recently signed by the Croatian ended all negotiations between the two parties.
United’s interest in the Frenchman appears to have added to Wenger’s problems, as his vital player, Alexis Sanchez, is certain to make a move to Manchester City in the next transfer window. A replacement for the Chilean would be top priority for Arsenal, but with United also eyeing the same player, a bidding war between the English giants is inevitable in January.
