Despite sneaking in a 2-1 win against Getafe on Saturday, courtesy of a late goal from Paulinho, Barcelona will now have bigger things to worry about. The encounter saw their marquee signing, Ousmane Dembélé, limping off the pitch in the 29th minute.

Details about the injury have now emerged, and it will be a massive blow to the supporters of the Spanish giants, as the 20-year-old is set to miss out for up to four months due to the hamstring injury.

In an official statement on their website, Barcelona announced: “The tests have come back following first team player Ousmane Dembélé’s injury in the 29th minute of the Getafe match. Unfortunately, he has ruptured the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh.”

Barca signed the youngster from Borussia Dortmund just last month, for a club record fee that could go as high as £135.5 million, making the Frenchman the second most expensive player in world football.

Having just begun to start off things with the side, this is a dreadful setback for the youngster. It doesn’t need to be said that the forward was keen to prove his price tag and commence his linkup with Messi and Suarez.

The statement further provides details about the treatment he will undergo. He is scheduled for a surgery in Finland by Dr. Sakari Orava later this week.

Moreover, this will pose a great challenge for Ernesto Valverde, as the manager was eager on using the youngster as the direct replacement for Neymar, who departed to PSG in a world record move. Now, perhaps he shall look at Gerard Deulofeu and Denis Suarez as his replacements due to the injury.

While they still sit comfortably atop the La Liga table, having won all their matches, it remains to be seen how this unfortunate incident shall affect Barcelona’s future performances. As for Dembélé, he will be eager to heal and get back into action as soon as he physically can.
