Ander Herrera is reportedly willing to sign a new contract with the Red Devils, amid speculation regarding a possible move to La Liga giants Barcelona.

Herrera was regularly linked with a switch to the Camp Nou this summer, but the 28-year-old dismissed the speculation by clearly stating that he was ‘very happy’ at Old Trafford, despite having lost his place to United’s new summer signing, Nemanja Matic.

And now, as reported by Tutto Mercato Web, the Spanish midfielder has agreed to sign an extension with the Premier League giants.

The Spanish international’s current deal runs till 2018, and it was reported that Herrera is likely to continue his stay in England, especially after having won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year accolade last year in May.

However, it was also claimed that the La Liga giants are still keen on signing the Spaniard, as Barca’s new manager, Ernesto Valverde, who coached Herrera at Athletic Bilbao, wants a reunion with his former star.

Meanwhile, United boss Jose Mourinho recently confirmed that Herrera, along with veteran midfielder Michael Carrick, will return to his line-up soon, in order to help him efficiently regulate the squad during the Red Devils’ hectic matchday schedule.

Mourinho stated: “He (Carrick) is in a team with these two guys, playing absolutely phenomenal. For Carrick and for Ander, it’s just patience because their time will arrive. They are going to be important players for us, for sure. That’s the team, that’s the squad. We cannot play with (only) 11 guys.”

Herrera has made 126 first-team appearances for the Red Devils since moving to Old Trafford from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, and enjoys a cult following at the Theatre of Dreams.
