Liverpool Preparing To Hijack Deal For Talented Midfielder Leon Goretzka
Premier League giants Liverpool may be adding Naby Keita to their squad next summer, but that has not hindered them from hunting for the services of another midfielder.
The Reds signed Keita for a club record fee from German outfit RB Leipzig, and the player will appear for them from the summer of 2018. Despite having signed their prime target, it has been reported that Jurgen Klopp is set to go for another midfielder from Bundesliga, and this time, from Schalke.
As per German outlet Bild, Klopp’s side will be hoping to lure Leon Goretzka, who has interestingly has attracted attention from a host of top European clubs. The player is in the final year of his contract and could be available as a free agent, and the situation appears to be enticing for the top guns, as they continue to monitor his situation.
The 22-year-old is touted to be one of the most promising youngsters, having enjoyed an excellent campaign last term, scoring 7 goals in 39 appearances for Schalke. He has already won the FIFA Confederations Cup with Germany in 2017, and could well see his name in next year’s FIFA World Cup squad, which will be held in Russia.
Liverpool have a lot of options in midfield at the moment, and Keita’s arrival will only make it stronger. With a lot of competition for places expected, the Merseyside outfit will have to figure out who stays in the squad and who departs.
If Goretzka does choose to join Liverpool, he will be hoping to secure playing time and show his mettle in the Premier League. However, the club must finish in top four and secure Champions League football in order to lure the German international, as most of the other top sides will probably have that in their offing.
