Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is keen on keeping hold of Manchester United loanee Sam Johnston, who could be seen signing a permanent deal at Villa Park at the end of his loan spell.

The former England U21 goalkeeper has thoroughly impressed the Villa fans ever since he joined their side back in January 2017. Johnstone’s performances earned him another season-long loan deal in Bruce’s team this season as well.

And now, the English manager has expressed his desire to sign the talented shot-stopper on a permanent deal rather than a loan deal, and is already planning to make that happen in January.

“It would be great to keep him here for the next few years as Villa’s No.1,” said Bruce. “I will need to ask the question. The ideal move for us would be to buy him in January. You’ve seen it, a young goalkeeper coming in and getting better with every game he plays.

“The difference in him since he’s started in January to now is light years. He’s confident, playing every week and he’s playing real football.”

Meanwhile, with big names like David De Gea and Sergio Romero cemented at the top of Jose Mourinho’s pecking order at Manchester United, committing his future with Villa would certainly offer Johnstone a better opportunity to further flourish his career.

The 24-year-old is currently enjoying his spell as an Aston Villa player, and is widely expected to sign a permanent deal at the end of his loan tenure.
