Monaco star Fabinho might put pen to paper for Manchester United in the January transfer window, according to former French forward Robert Pires.

The 24-year-old has made a meteoric rise in his football career during the three seasons he has spent at Monaco. Accordingly, he has picked interest from top English clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United.

The Brazilian was already linked with a move to the Premier League earlier this year, although it failed to materialise. However, Robert Pires believes that it is only a matter of time before the English clubs snatch the decorated defender away from Les Monégasques.

“I think this could happen in January, or next summer,” the influential figure proclaimed when enquired about the possibility of Fabinho’s move to Old Trafford. “Manchester City could also be interested, but they’ve got Fernandinho at the moment, who is playing very well.”

The Gunners, who expressed their interest in the player as well, fabricated an attempt, despite being unsuccessful, to swoop the Brazilian’s club teammate, Thomas Lemar. The 44-year-old further let Bwin know his thoughts on that.

“Arsene [Wenger] tried to buy Lemar, and tried very hard, but I don’t think the move will happen now. I don’t think he’s worth £90m, it’s too much, the market is crazy. What would Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho be worth now!” he added.

Nevertheless, Fabinho has his contract extending up to 2021, which fastens him to Monaco further. Moreover, it’s still obscure whether the Ligue 1 side has any intentions of parting ways with the player. Regardless, Pires remains seemingly assured that the player will be on the move come winter.
