Big News: Furious Conte To Drop Two Chelsea Stars
David Luiz is set to be dropped for Chelsea’s blockbuster clash against Manchester United today, as Antonio Conte attempts to make a defensive shake up.
Luiz has been a central figure for the champions since his return to the club from Paris Saint-Germain, but he has been called into question for his poor form of late, and Tuesday’s 3-0 defensive shambles against Roma in the Champions League appears to have finally blown Conte’s hatchet.
The Brazilian, who played alongside Gary Cahill, was an absolute mess, and his partner’s shaky display did not do him any favors either, as Edin Dzeko sliced through them. Cahill is also understood to be one of the casualties for the clash against Jose Mourinho’s United side.

Reports in The Sun have suggested that the pair is set to be left out, with Conte choosing to go with Andreas Christensen in a back three in training instead. Summer signing David Zappacosta has been reliable when called upon, and could step in as a right wing-back, and Cesar Azpilicueta is set to keep his place.
If Conte does take the decision to drop Luiz, he may come under some scrutiny from the higher ups, as the 30-year-old is one of owner Roman Abramovich’s favorites.
Reports claim that there is a possibility of seeing a repeat of Abramovich’s decision to sack Roberto Di Matteo after he dropped Fernando Torres in a 3-0 defeat to Juventus, despite the Italian leading Chelsea to the Champions League title just seven months earlier.
Much will depend on the outcome of the clash with United, as it could potentially define the rest of Chelsea’s season. The Blues have already lost 4 games this season, and having shipped a shocking total of 11 goals in 6 games in October. Conte knows he will have to risk the defensive changes against a side that can be deadly if given the freedom to attack.
