Mourinho Confirms Crucial Player Could Leave
Manchester United work well as a unit due to individual talents that are woven to function best, and this season, for the first time in a long time, Jose Mourinho’s side has shown consistent indications of the same.
However, having talented players comes with the baggage of potentially losing them when suitors come knocking. These days, even that doesn’t occur, as players tend to live out their contract and then choose a new club and deal for themselves.
Now, Jose Mourinho has confirmed the fears that one Red Devil might end up doing precisely that.
As per Sky Sports, Mourinho, when asked if he was worried about Marouane Fellaini not renewing his contract and seeking an exit in the summer, replied, “Yes, I am.”
The Portuguese boss, when asked if anything will be done by him to change the situation, said: “Nothing. It is a discussion between the player and the board. I am not involved in contracts, in deals. And I respect both.
“I respect the player because the player has the right to decide his future. He finishes his contract, he has the right to decide his future, and I respect the board because the decisions and the discussions are under their control.”
While he does maintain that he is not involved in the contracts, it is unquestionable that the master tactician is a huge admirer of Fellaini, and has openly stated that the Belgian is an important part of his squad.
He went on to state: “So I just wait, wishing that they will have an understanding but it’s out of my control.”
While offers for the 30-year-old have been coming in for quite a while now, in the last month or so, it has had major developments.
Interest from Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray were what piqued curiosity in the services of the former Evertonian. But the grandest destination would be that of PSG, who recently emerged as alleged suitors of his signature.
However, judging by Mourinho’s tone, for the time being, it does appear that Fellaini will be a Red no more come summer.
