Sevilla Emerge As Favourites To Sign United Outcast
The hopes piled on Matteo Darmian when he was signed by Louis Van Gaal haven’t seen fruition under Jose Mourinho. As a result, the Italian defender has seen a sharp drop from the pecking order.
The absolutely stunning form of both Antonio Valencia, and as of recent, Ashley Young as well, have ensured that a return to the starting lineup seems highly unlikely for the former Torino man.
As of such, it was recently reported that Roma would rescue the 27-year-old from the clutches of the bench at Old Trafford. But another report now indicates that a side in Spain might be the one that actually gets away with his signature.
According to The Sun, Sevilla are most eager and likely to sign Darmian, as his valuation of £15 million seems to agree with all parties. The source went on to state that the deal is likely to be penned early on in the upcoming January window itself.
This will be a big blow for Roma, who were hoping to sign the Red Devil for dire reasons. Having lost their summer signing Rick Karsdorp for the rest of the season to injury, the Giallorossi were looking at Darmian to ease their woes in that side of the defense.
Now, the alleged loan with the option of permanent buy deal seems dwarfed. Further, the fact that the La Liga side is willing to pay the amount in January itself could be a big factor in tipping the scales in their favor.
However, this could still potentially develop into a bidding war, as the full-back might be more inclined to join his native country as well.
Regardless of what happens, both United and Darmian will benefit from this deal – the club by gaining a potential return on investment, and the player by acquiring much needed game-time.
