Explained: Why Anthony Martial Struggles To Always Start
Jose Mourinho has gone on to reveal why French international Anthony Martial is not on the pitch for long more often.
The former Monaco youngster scored his 6th goal of this Premier League campaign against Watford in United’s latest 4-2 victory at Vicarage Road.
Besides his goal, he also bagged two assists, but despite the heroics, he did not complete full 90 minutes against Watford, as he was replaced by Marcus Rashford – a scene that has been witnessed so often this season.
Speaking in his post match press conference, the Portuguese explained the reason for his decision, by stating: “I think he suffers a little bit with an accumulation of matches. I could feel that in the second half he was going down and down and down.”
The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager then went on to add that Martial has to improve his fitness, before he went on to praise the forward for his performance.
“He’s still a young guy and his body, his biological situation has space to improve but in the first half, during the time, he had strength and explosion in his legs. He was dangerous and [scored] an important goal,” Jose added.
Martial has reached new heights this season after being criticised by the manager last term, and is earning the faith that has seen him feature so regularly for the team. Martial and Rashford have often replaced each other this campaign, as Jose continues to bear the fruit of both youngsters performing well.
The Mancunian club is up against Arsenal this weekend, against an Arsene Wenger side that has won 12 successive games at home. Jose will hope his star Frenchman plays an important role at the Emirates as well, and delivers the goods once again.
