Jose Mourinho has been desperate to solve the problems in the wide areas of his defense.

While Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have been in impeccable form, with the latter finding the back of the net twice in United’s 4-2 triumph over Watford, a defensive-minded and more experienced individual will be certainly desired by the Portuguese.

To add to his plight is Luke Shaw, who he has dropped from the squad altogether. However, the young defender could prove to be crucial in the Mancunian side being able to land a top rated player.

According to Mirror, Mourinho is eager to make the signing of Danny Rose from Tottenham. The same report states that in order to entice the London club to make the deal, the ex-Chelsea manager is willing to splash £40m as well as offer Shaw in a deal that could take place in January.

This could work well for all parties, as United will find an easy way to offload the youngster, and still not be at a loss from their initial investment.

With the former Southampton defender not wanting to move to Turkey, from where he has received some alleged interest, this swap deal could be a blessing in disguise.

Further, having already played under Pochettino at Southampton, Shaw will be all too eager to make the switch to the London-based outfit.

Rose, on the other hand, is visibly unhappy with his return from injury with Spurs. The 27-year-old English defender is renowned for his pace, and would function brilliantly in a Mourinho side.

Further, having openly criticized his current club earlier in the summer in a controversial interview, it is highly unlikely that he will wish to remain a part of the team any longer.
