Antoine Griezmann has reportedly informed Manchester United that he has reached an agreement with Barcelona over his rumored transfer to the club next summer.

The Atletico Madrid talisman has been eager to depart from the Spanish capital for the past two seasons now, but was forced to stay put after the club received a transfer ban.

United have been holding an interest in the Frenchman for quite a while as well, and were destined to snap him up last summer, before the circumstances made the deal impossible.

Since then though, reports of his move to Atletico’s title rivals Barca have grown at an increasing rate. The Catalan club are desperate to secure a replacement for the declining Luis Suarez, and have identified Griezmann as a solid candidate to do so.

It will take big bucks though, as the forward has a release clause of €100 million. However, the price may not be an issue for one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they seem prepared to meet Atletico’s demands.

United, on the other hand, are more than willing to splash the required cash, and maybe even more if it means signing one of the world’s best players.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign a world-class winger, after having failed in his pursuit of Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic.

Given that Griezmann’s brother is a massive United fan, there appeared to be every chance in the world that the forward would seek to fulfill his sibling’s ambitions, but that does not appear to be the case.

The 26-year-old has previously admitted to holding reservations about the ‘weather’ in Manchester, and now, this could play a huge role in him opting to stay in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo have already gone as far as to suggest that Griezmann has told United he will be moving to the Nou Camp instead of Old Trafford, and it will be interesting to see how Mourinho reacts to the news that he is on the brink of losing out on one of his most wanted players.
