United Looking At Napoli Midfielder As Potential Replacement For Carrick
Michael Carrick is believed by many to be serving his last term at Old Trafford, and recent complications have had him sidelined for quite a few months.
As of such, United must begin to look for a swift replacement which could potentially also double up as a signing that will solve their midfield dilemmas. And now, the latest player to have come under their radar could solve this issue quite well.
As per M.E.N Sports, Jose Mourinho and company have identified Napoli’s Jorginho as the player who can fill the gap that will be left behind by Carrick.
The 26-year-old functions primarily as a central defensive midfielder, akin to the holding role that Nemanja Matic currently occupies at Old Trafford.
In fact, he might be even better than the former Chelsea man at the spot, judging by his tactful antics in the Serie A, and will certainly be a massive one-up to Ander Herrera. With Marouane Fellaini’s future also shrouded in doubt, it seems likely that the signing will be made.
During Napoli’s Champions League defeat to Man City, Pep Guardiola hailed Jorginho’s performance to be ‘wonderful’. To add to the fray, a Napoli website claimed that the Neapolitans had received a ‘big offer’ from an English club.
With 2 goals and 3 assists in 15 starts, the midfielder has shown himself to be quite the talent.
However, it is also important to remember that should the deal go through in the upcoming winter window, the player won’t be able to feature with the Red Devils in the Champions League, being cup-tied with his stint at Napoli.
Regardless, the Italian is a talent that Jose Mourinho will be placing a close look at, and as of such, something substantial could brew out of all this after all.
