With transfer sagas switching on the spur of the moment, it is not uncommon for clubs to leap onto the targets of their rivals to ensure their needs are met.

Such a scenario could quickly unfold in the Premier League, with Man City having identified their replacement target for Alexis Sanchez, and it is a player that Man Utd have been in heavy pursuit of.

Sanchez was high atop the wish list of City before Man Utd swooped in with a late and better offer. As a result, the Sky Blues have opted out of the race to sign the Chilean, as the fee of £35 million feels overvalued to them.

As a result, Pep Guardiola has been given the clear by the City board to pursue Antoine Griezmann as the replacement signing instead, as reported by M.E.N Sport.

However, this signing will only occur in the summer window, but the funds required are assured to Guardiola. As it stands, the 26-year-old Frenchman, who was on United’s radar throughout the summer, has a buyout clause of £89 million.

Currently, Barcelona are another team believed to be in pursuit of the player, and were said to be preparing a summer bid. But with the arrival of Coutinho and the recovery of Dembele, it will be interesting to see whether or not the deal is still a priority at the Camp Nou.

Guardiola will be gutted to have lost out on Sanchez, and as of such, will be eager to make the world-class signing. The source also added that Griezmann is ‘admired’ by the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona gaffer.

If the deal goes through, it would further reinforce a City frontline that has already struck much fear into the defense of several clubs this season.
