Manchester United are reportedly ready to meet Faouzi Ghoulam’s release clause, as they seek to secure the services of one of Europe’s top rated full-backs.

Ghoulam has been one of Napoli’s most crucial players over the past couple of seasons, and the club is naturally keen to hold on to him. In fact, the Algerian only just signed a new contract with the Serie A side last month, but could still be on his way out.

Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are all said to be interested in the defender, but Jose Mourinho’s men appear to be ahead of the chasing pack.

The Cityzens were in desperate need of a new full-back after Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy left the club, and Ghoulam was meant to solve those issues.

However, United appear to be even more reliant on a move for a left/right-back. Despite the recent emergence of Luke Shaw, the fact is that the Red Devils are incredibly short of quality options in the position.

Ghoulam’s price tag is believed to be around €60 million, but according to Italian newspaper Rai Sport (via IamNaples), price will not be an issue for United, as they are ready to spend big bucks on a player who they think will offer the desired input.

Napoli have already begun their search for a replacement, and are in the mix to sign Benfica star Alex Grimaldo.
