Transfer prices in the modern era are swiftly becoming an art of elevating as many eyebrows as possible.

After PSG’s mind-boggling transfer fees in order to secure the likes of Neymar and Mbappe earlier this summer, no amount seems too much anymore.

Despite causing an unprecedented surge in the transfer prices throughout the market, one thing that seems to be a given is that no amount will surpass that of the Brazilian’s in the near future. This is considering the sizeable release clauses that several talents have on their heads.

Yet, one player, in particular, is apparently worth just as much as Neymar.

Gareth Bale has been linked with an exit from Real Madrid quite a lot in recent years, largely due to injuries and form-related concerns.

These headlines would certainly have us believe that United are the club most likely to splurge the cash for the talented forward. However, the player’s agent claims an entirely different scenario, and ascertains that the 28-year-old is ‘very happy’ with Los Blancos.

Speaking to Tuttosport, the Welshman’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, claimed: “He’s worth at least the €222m (£200m) paid for Neymar. Gareth is very happy with Real Madrid. He loves Madrid.

“Gareth doesn’t need Cristiano Ronaldo to leave. Bale is already a star at Real Madrid. I remember the pen Florentino Perez gave me, he’s a great gentleman, I always carry it with me.”

He confidently added: “Bale was close to signing for an Italian club, but Spurs didn’t accept the offer. He’s happy in Madrid now, although things can change quickly in football, however, I know that no Italian club can afford to buy him at this point.”

While the amount might seem an unfair one when compared with Bale’s recent antics, it is a fair reflection of the utter frenzy that is the financial side of the game.
