Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Nice midfielder Jean Michaël Seri.

The Red Devils appear set to face a shortage of central midfielders at the end of the ongoing campaign, with Michael Carrick on the verge of hanging up his boots and Marouane Fellaini looking to move on in search of consistent first-team action.

However, the Old Trafford outfit’s midfield problems could go from bad to worse, thanks to the recent problems between manager Jose Mourinho and club talisman Paul Pogba.

The France international has looked far from his usual self in the past few weeks. While some sources have pointed at his illness as the the cause behind his poor form, other reports have hinted that the player is dissatisfied at being deployed out of position by the gaffer.

Either way, there appears to be something wrong with the 24-year-old, and Manchester United seem to be already preparing for an alternative if their record signing ends up heading out the Old Trafford exit door come summer.

According to The Sun, the Mancunian giants have contacted Jean Seri’s representatives, in order to enquire about a potential transfer at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old almost joined Barcelona last summer, until the deal eventually fell through. The midfielder has also attracted tremendous attention from England, with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City keeping tabs on his situation.

The Ivory Coast international’s release clause seems to be far below his current market value as well, so if United were to make a move for Seri, they could successfully snatch him up and bolster their midfield, replacing Pogba in the process.
