Jose Mourinho wants to exponate Man Utd’s defensive abilities, and has identified Real Madrid and Barcelona centre-backs as potential targets.

Samuel Umtiti and Raphael Varane are believed to be the top names on Mourinho’s target list. And one of these men could potentially be a defensive partner for Eric Bailly, who is in desperate need of one.

With the Catalan giants failing to meet Umtiti’s contractual demands, he has left the door open for suitors that are interested in his services.

According to Mirror, the Frenchman wants his current £50,000-per-week salary to be trebled, which Barca are unwillingness to oblige to.

Moreover, with a very humble release clause of £52 million in the modern inflated transfer market, losing their star defender is a real concern for the Spanish giants.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, are more than prepared to agree to the centre-back’s salary demand of £8 million-a-year.

And with Sport reporting that the Spanish league leaders are eyeing RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano and Schalke defender Thilo Kehrer, the French international’s departure looks like an actual possibility.

Meanwhile, barely anything is known about the English giants’ interest in Varane, but the core idea is to provide Bailly with a competent partner.

Nevertheless, the ex-Chelsea boss is expected to do whatever it takes to fix up his side’s inconsistent defence.
