Anthony Martial’s future at Manchester United continues to look bleaker and bleaker with every passing day.

Reports have recently emerged claiming that the forward has decided to turn down a new contract with the club until they can guarantee him more playing time.

Martial has had a very mixed season so far, despite an impressive tally of 11 goals and 7 assists.

He started the season as second choice to Marcus Rashford, but after a brilliant rise in form coinciding with Englishman’s decline thereof, Martial was given the nod by Jose Mourinho, and rightfully made the left flank his own.

However, his season has turned around drastically since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the January window. Since then, the Chilean has come in and has been first choice, meaning Martial once again faced an uphill battle to get back into the team.

On top of that, Rashford was trusted to start United’s game against Liverpool on the 10th of March, and he put up an incredible display, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win. That performance moved him higher up the pecking order as well, making Martial 3rd choice.

According to reports in The Times, the 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order because United’s coaches are ‘concerned about his application in training and his concentration levels’.

He is often seen as a player with ridiculous potential, but also as someone who doesn’t seem to work hard enough to become one of the world’s best, which he is more than capable of doing.

Mourinho was recently rumoured to have grown frustrated with Martial, and the Frenchman could be eager to leave as well if he doesn’t get a sustained role in the side.

Manchester United have offered him a new 5-year contract, but he has rejected it so far until he can have assurances of more playing time from now onwards.
