The thing about transfer rumors that is particularly irritable is their nature to ape and grow on themselves till truth can’t be separated from fiction.

One of the most leading sagas that have been linked to United over the past months is their ongoing hunt for a midfielder.

Jose Mourinho has openly claimed on multiple occasions that attaining a world-class midfielder is their main agenda this window, primarily to replace the retiring Michael Carrick.

As of such, a host of well-performing names have been tipped to join the Mancunian giants, but none so more than Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 23-year-old, whose incredible antics have led him to a host of interest, was heavily linked with Old Trafford. In fact, multiple reports last week claimed that United had the deal with Lazio in the bag, and that an £80 million offer was on the table.

However, the latest breakthrough denies this, and for that matter, also rubbishes any contact whatsoever.

In an interview to Lazionews.eu, the player’s agent, Mateja Kezman, openly stated: “Lazio have three big games to go and nobody has talked about any negotiations at this moment. The Biancocelesti have the opportunity to get their best result of recent years by qualifying for the Champions League.”

The former Chelsea striker also added about whether any other club was in the fray to sign the Serb: “It’s only normal there is enormous interest in Sergej between some top European clubs, but we do not have any agreement with any club.”

While this doesn’t entirely exclude the Red Devils from the narrative, there seems to be a slimmer chance that this will be their marquee signing ahead of next season.

In fact, there might be a great need for Mourinho to start looking elsewhere, and perhaps the gaffer already has been doing just that, with the likes of Fred and Jorginho also reportedly on their radar.
