Wayne Rooney has reportedly agreed a deal in principle with MLS outfit DC United.

The Englishman appears set to part ways with boyhood club Everton after spending merely a season at the Goodison Park outfit, and head out to the United States of America.

While Rooney is yet to agree on a salary with the MLS club, Sky Sports News understand that this contract would keep the former Man United star in the US until 2020, and also make him the highest paid player at DC.

The decorated forward received some lucrative offers from numerous Major League Soccer clubs last summer, but he rejected them all in favour of a return to Merseyside.

The report adds that while the 32-year-old may be set to secure the switch to Washington DC, it’s still unclear as to whether his wife Coleen and their three children will make the move along with him.

Toffees boss Sam Allardyce recently confirmed that while he wanted the legendary forward to stay put at the club, a ‘massive offer’ could be enough to convince the player to depart for pastures anew.
