Manchester United have been told they could sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred for €60 million.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in recruiting two central midfielders this summer. And while the Red Devils have been heavily linked with Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, the other player believed to be on their radar is Shakhtar superstar Fred.

Not only is Fred the type of midfielder Manchester United do not possess at the moment, but he is also Brazilian, which makes him all the more valuable for Mourinho, who previously admitted that he would love to add a Brazil international to his squad.

Fred was expected to complete a January switch to Manchester City, but the Sky Blues appear to have given up their pursuit after the failed winter transfer. However, as per Manchester Evening News, United will still have to battle PSG for the 25-year-old.

With Thiago Motta being 35 years old and Lassana Diarra 33, Paris Saint-Germain intend to sign a new dynamic defensive midfielder to partner Adrien Rabiot, which had led the Ligue 1 giants to identify Fred as a crucial summer target.

The report further adds that if United are to beat PSG in this transfer race, they will have to meet the midfielder’s release clause and cough up €60 million (£52.89m). This asking price could possibly increase further if the starlet performs well in the 2018 World Cup.

With these two European juggernauts amongst the several parties interested in the in-demand player, it remains to be seen where he eventually ends up before the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
