Manchester United have triggered the €20m release clause of FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot.

With Jose Mourinho looking to severely improve his team’s defence in the current summer window, the Portuguese tactician is now close to signing a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia, 32, in the right-back position.

As per Telegraph, the Red Devils are expected to announce Dalot’s signing in the next few days, after having already activated the €20m (£17.44m) release clause in the player’s contract with Porto.

The 19-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Mancunian outfit, and he is set to enter United’s first-team setup straightaway, and compete with the Ecuadorian for the starting spot.

Despite having broken into Porto’s first-team at the start of the 2017-18 season, the Portugal Under-21 international is highly rated in his homeland.

The young starlet is highly versatile, and capable of playing on both the defensive planks, as evident from his impressive display against Liverpool in the Champions League away tie from the left-back position.

Dalot, who has only a year left on his current Porto contract, attracted interest from several European juggernauts, including the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Napoli.

However, the Red Devils have acted swiftly in activating the player’s release clause, which has left Porto with no option but to see their talented defender move to the Theatre of Dreams.
