Man Utd Youngster Reveals He’s Frustrated Of Waiting For First-Team Chances

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has admitted he is tired of waiting for first-team chances at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are known for producing some of the best talents in the country, but only a few of them are able to make it to the first team. Players who don’t make into the squad are given opportunities through loan spells at other clubs.

Fosu-Mensah has played in the United first team as well as at other clubs on loan in order to prove his abilities. He burst to the scene when Louis Van Gaal promoted him to the matchday squad.

In his first season, he made 1o appearances for the Reds, and received accolades from a number of football pundits. He made a further 11 appearances after Jose Mourinho’s arrival, but that was over a full season.

The Dutch defender was considered a surplus to requirements by Jose last season, and he was sent out to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan. Once again, the 20-year old managed to put in some amazing performances with the Eagles.

But opportunities are likely to be scarce at Old Trafford upon his return, as Mourinho has gone on to sign Diogo Dalot from Porto, even though Fosu-Mensah has proven himself to be quite capable in a full-back role.

In a recent interview with FunX, the Dutch youngster told that he is tired of hearing that he is young and needs to wait for his time. He believes that he is ready to take up challenges, and wants to compete for top European prizes soon.

“I do not want to hear that I am young and that my time is still coming,” he stated. “I want to reach the top as quickly as possible, that’s me. The top is World Cup, European Championship, Champions League final, which is the top for me, winning prizes.”

Fosu-Mensah also added that Crystal Palace provided him the platform to break into the Dutch national team last season.

“I was close to the Dutch national team when I was at United, but I did not play anymore. From August 2017 to May 2018 I was loaned to Crystal Palace, I think that was a good choice. I can also play for Oranje,” he added.

The chances in the right-back role seem bleak for Fosu-Mensah, as the arrival of Diogo Dalot means he will at least be third in the pecking order, behind Valencia and Darmian.

With the United squad packed at the moment, it wouldn’t make sense if the young starlet stays in Manchester for another season and wastes his talent on the bench.
