Manchester United fans were thrown into much frenzy, as numerous reports began to emerge quite confidently stating that the agent of Anthony Martial is overseeing the Frenchman’s departure from Old Trafford.

RMC Sport quoted Philippe Lamboley as having said the following: “After thinking about all the factors and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United. There are lots of factors, and right now it’s too early to talk about them.”

He added: “I think that when United, the most powerful club in the world, do not find an agreement after eight months of negotiations then they do not really want to keep such an important player in their squad.

“That’s why this decision has come – it’s a well-thought-out decision. Everyone will have their opinion but I think he needs to resume his career. The time has come.”

However, the devil is in the details, as the statement clearly states that nothing definitive has been reached yet, and most fans are holding on to that desperate straw to hope that their young forward, who is much loved by many, doesn’t leave.

Now, Simon Stone of the BBC has tweeted the following: “Been told @ManUtd have no intention of selling Anthony Martial. Still has one year + option for additional season left on his contract.”

This is in line with how things appeared to be from quite a while now. In fact, while it seems very clear that the club wishes to invest in the 22-year-old for the long-term, it is Jose Mourinho who may be the blocking factor.

The Portuguese gaffer is used to specialists playing under him, and that may be what is keeping the uncertainty alive.

While United have made a decent bit of transfer business over the past weeks, both their potential attacking targets in the form of Bale and Ronaldo seem like sagas that are nearly over.

If a second striker is opted for instead, Martial could very well stay on and be the special attacking talent that United are looking for.
