David De Gea may be considered as the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment, and with Cristiano Ronaldo on the other end, the battle between the two was always set to be special.

But in Spain and Portugal’s 3-3 draw in the FIFA World Cup 2018, it was Ronaldo all over De Gea.

It wasn’t the kind of night which De Gea must have hoped for, as he often comes out with remarkable world class saves to be a driving force. Against Portugal, Ronaldo got the better of him thrice, and the keeper was cut a sorry figure in the end.

The moment arrived in the 4th minute itself, when Ronaldo was awarded a penalty after being brought down by Nacho inside the penalty box.

The Manchester United goalkeeper went up to Ronaldo and gave him a squared up look in order to intimidate him, but then Ronaldo is Ronaldo for a reason.

The Real Madrid talisman sent De Gea the wrong way in an astounding penalty to give his side the lead. The Spaniard’s tactics prior to the penalty did not work in his favour. You can watch the video here:

Ronaldo then caught De Gea by surprise as the latter failed to keep out a sitter. One could wonder if the failed intimidation and the goal earlier played in the Spanish international’s mind.

For Ronaldo’s third goal though, De Gea was left a spectator, after the Portuguese’s stunning free-kick was too hot to handle for anybody.

De Gea will be hoping to produce the form he has shown for United for the last couple of seasons and make it count in the next encounter. On Friday night, however, Ronaldo showed who’s boss.
