Memphis Depay, one of the many players who have failed to assert themselves at Old Trafford in the last few years, has certainly revived his career with French giants Lyon.

The winger spent just 18 months at Manchester United, before being sold to Lyon at the start of the previous season. He registered 22 goals and 17 assists in all competitions in the previous campaign, showing the quality that saw United sign him in the first place.

And it is now understood that Depay is close to joining Serie A giants AC Milan this summer.

Reports suggest that the 24-year old has agreed personal terms with the Italian side on a five-year deal starting next season. He will earn close to £4m a year, making him one of the highest paid players at San Siro.

It has also been revealed that Manchester United inserted a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause in his deal with Lyon, but Jose Mourinho does not seem too interested in bringing the Dutchman back to Old Trafford.

The French side values Depay at £35m, and hold out for that price, as they will have to pay a portion of the fees to the Red Devils.

But it is understood that Milan are ready to meet his valuation, but a lot will depend on UEFA’s decision regarding the FFP rules.

Milan are reportedly in danger of losing out a place in the Europa League if it is found that they are not complying with the financial fair play rules, and that will also mean that they cannot land Depay.

They will have to sell players to land the Lyon man this summer, but Memphis has reportedly impressed Gennaro Gattuso, who personally scouted him a number of times.
